Dorian Band Festival 2017 - Mar 21, 2017

Five students from Winona Senior High School participated in the 68th annual Dorian Band Festival, which took place Feb.  22 and 27 on the campus of Luther College in Decorah, IA.  Over six hundred students from Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin participated in the event, one of the longest-running festivals of its kind in the nation.

WAPS District Curriculum Advisory Committee Openings - Mar 28, 2017

Winona Area Public Schools has (3) openings for community members to serve on the Curriculum Advisory Committee. The CAC terms are 4 years and meet on the 3rd Monday of the month August through May.
 
The purpose of the CAC is to serve as an advisory committee that ensures active community participation in all phases in planning and improving instruction and curriculum, especially aspects affecting graduation standards. They will advise the school board on implementation of the state and local graduation requirements, including K-12 curriculum, assessment, student-learning opportunities and other related issues.

WAPS student Nate Dennis Qualifies for the National History Bee - Mar 29, 2017

The National History Bee is designed to motivate students to study for history and offers an exciting academic competition. Unlike other "Bees" that have only the top competitor moving on to the next round, the History Bee is all based upon scores. The first stage is the Classroom stage; Nate took the online test in December at the Middle School and scored enough points to make it to second stage, the Regional History Bee.  At the Regional History Bee, which includes Minnesota, North and South Dakota, and parts of Wisconsin, Nate competed in four rounds at the elementary level (4th - 6th grade).

Spring is here and baby chicks are hatching at W-K Elementary! - Apr 12, 2017

W-K kindergarten teachers Mrs. Kulzer and Mrs. Allington have fostered a love for learning through play this year in the kindergarten playroom. This room has a changing dramatic play theme each month and April’s theme is farming.

Winona State University Physics department along with student teachers, Abigial Grenon and Ashley Sim provided the playroom with an incubator, 41 chicken eggs, instructions and emotional support for how to hatch the eggs.

AVID kicks off at Winona Senior High School - Apr 13, 2017

The AVID program is getting ready to kick off beginning with the 2017-2018 school year at Winona Senior High School. AVID - Advancement Via Individual Determination - is a nationally-recognized college readiness program that focuses on students in the academic middle who have the will to succeed, but not necessarily all of the tools.

Congratulations to all FFA Award Winners! - Apr 20, 2017

The 73 rd Annual Winona FFA Awards Banquet was held on Tuesday, April 11, at Winona Senior High School. Over 200 parents, guests and members were present. Winona FFA President, Amanda McNally, was master of ceremonies. Winona FFA Advisor, Brian Sather, recognized the chapter’s most outstanding members with awards based on their leadership skills, chapter involvement, and individual projects. The star member awards were presented to the chapter’s most outstanding members. The Star Senior Awards went to Courtney Schams, daughter of Steve and Sarah Schams and Amanda McNally, daughter of Jim and Stacy McNally. Star Junior Awards went to Tyffanie Denzer, daughter of Eric and Wendy Denzer and Trinity Hugunin, daughter of Amy and Mark Hugunin. Star Discovery Degree Awards went to Trentton Denzer, son of Eri and Wendy Denzer, Bailey Harris, daughter of Judy and Greg Denzer, and Correy Schams son of Steve and Sarah Schams. Amanda McNally was recognized as being the chapter’s most active senior female member when she was named “Chapter Sweetheart”. McNally was also awarded the Retiring Presidents Plaque for serving as 2016-17 Winona FFA President. Hannah Aldinger, daughter of Roger and Teresa Aldinger was awarded a Retiring Senior Plaque.

Full House at Madison SLIP Math Night - Apr 21, 2017

Madison SLIP Math Night on April 18th, was a huge success with over 180 participants! Parents were able to learn how to incorporate math games at home and get a sneak peak into their child's math class in Spanish! Thank you to all that were able to attend, parents play a huge role in their child's learning experience.
