WSHS Coaching Staff
Head Coach: Matt Smith
Coach Smith is entering his 11th season as the Head Coach of the Winhawk Baseball Program. He has also coached baseball at Saint Mary's University, Winona Cotter, at the B-Squad level at Winona High, and for the Morrie Miller Foundation Youth Baseball Program. Coach Smith was born and raised in Winona and grew up playing baseball for the Buddies, Winhawks, LeJetz, Chiefs, and at Saint Mary's University. Coach Smith is married to his wife Katy and they have three grown daughters - Amanda, Jen, and Erin.

Varsity Assistant Coach: Steven Gilbertson
Coach Gilbertson is in his third season as a WSHS Varsity Assistant Coach after being the Varsity Reserve Head Coach for two years. Steven is from Eau Claire, WI where he attended North High School playing baseball, football, basketball, as well as Legion baseball in the summer. Steven has served as the Winona High football Offensive line coach since 2014, before that he coached at the middle school level for 4 years. Steven has been the assistant coach for the Winona LeJetz baseball team since 2014. He has also been the O-line/D-line coach for the Chippewa Valley Predators, a semi-professional football team from Eau Claire. Steven was the head WSHS C-Squad baseball coach in 2010, 2013, and 2014. He currently is the Social Studies teacher at the WALC. 

Volunteer Pitching Coach:  Greg Zaborowski
Coach Zaborowski is in his third season as a volunteer Pitching Coach for the Winhawk Baseball Program.  He has coached one year of Girl's Varsity Basketball and four years of Girl's Varsity Softball at Peterson, Minnesota from 1979 to 1983.  He was a pitcher on the 1971 VFW State Tournament Championship Team, the 1973 Winhawk State Runner-Up team, and at Winona State University from 1974 to 1978.  He also pitched Amateur Baseball from 1974 to 1981 which included the 1981 Winona Chiefs State Championship Team.  He has umpired in Minnesota and Wisconsin for VFW, High School, Legion, and Amateur level Baseball games for over thirty years.  Greg and his wife Teresa have been married for 39 years and have two grown children, Melissa and Sean. Melissa is a Mathematics Teacher at the Winona Middle School. She, and her husband, Gary Shields have two boys: Carter and Devin.  Sean (who played Winhawk Varsity Baseball from 1999 - 2002) works at Walser Subaru in Burnsville and lives in Farmington, Minnesota with his wife Ashley. They have three daughters: Brinley, and twins Baelyn and Beckette.  
Varsity Reserve Coach:  Dusty Larson
Coach Larson is in his 3rd season as the WSHS Varsity Reserve Baseball Coach after serving one year as the WSHS 9th grade baseball coach.  Dusty grew up in the Winona area and played baseball for the Winhawks in the early 2000’s.  He has spent the last several years coaching baseball at a variety of age levels including a year as the JV Head Baseball Coach for Cotter High School and many summers coaching youth baseball, including a Morrie Miller summer baseball team.  Dusty also coached cross country and basketball at the Winona Middle School.  He currently is the Physical Education teacher at Ridgeway Community School.
